Movie Review

Im the Captain Now; Movie Review

The plot of Captain Phillips is the true story of how Somali pirates hijacked an American ship. Richard Phillips, the captain of the ship played by Tom Hanks, was trying to protect his crew as a group of Somali pirates had gotten onto the ship with plans to steal. The captain of the pirates Muse, played by Barkhad Abdi, was leading his fellow men along with him. As the men on the ship were trying to fight, they were quite helpless with the pirates having weapons as they did not have anything. The pirates had threatened the crew to kill and harm them. They tied them up and such in hopes of them giving up money. During this, the youngest pirate had harmed his foot and the captain harmed his hand. The crew members had ended up keeping one of the pirates hostage. In order to protect his crew, Phillips made a deal to give the pirates as much money that they had and a lifeboat for them to leave. The crew members gave up the pirate they had so they would leave. As this happened, the pirates took Phillips with them into the life boat and left on a journey back to Somalia. Locked in a boat with pirates without food and much water, Phillips was able to stay calm throughout the story. He even tried to help treat the young pirates foot. Throughout this, Navy seals were tracking down the lifeboat in hopes to safely bring Phillips back to safety. Phillips is a great character to create a moral theme of leadership. This can be shown by him solely by him being a captain.  The movie is very interesting with many different twists and turns. It is pretty high-concept so it is easy to keep up with. Anyone that cares about human life would enjoy this movie. Overall, I give this movie a 9/10.
