Many students strive to get the title of, Student of the Month, at Bowie High School. But, for Freshman Sofia Tello, becoming,Student of the Month, was a different story. Tello has been working very hard for this title and is very happy about her accomplishment.

"I was so shocked that I almost peed my pants," Sofia Tello said.

Tello was very unaware that she would be the person who was chosen for this position yet, she was extremely happy about it.

"Of course I'm happy about this but, I know some other people that work much harder than me and hey haven't been recognized. There's just so many people in this school that it's hard to fit everyone into getting their chance," Tello said.

Tello stated that the downsides to this position are that other people deserved this position more than she did. Also, she has to work up to the expectations to have a good influence while holding the title.

“What’s expected from you is to just live up to the title. This means that my grades need to stay in a steady position and that I make a good role model,” Tello said.

She had also listed the positives to this. She stated that it's great that this is a part of the school because it shows that her accomplishments have paid off.

"I felt a major weight being lifted off of my shoulders when I heard the news," Tello said.

Tello is involved in one pre ap class, which is english, the rest of her classes are at the academic level. Tello has a good mindset on school which keeps her in a good mood making her ready to learn.

"I feel that if I think of school as being fun that it helps me learn much better and I don't get bored in class," Tello said.

Tello also has other people that have contributed to this, like her english teacher, Mr. Peevey. Mr Peevey is the teacher who had nominated her for this position.

"I nominated Sofia because she is very hardworking, she always comes to me when she needs extra help or when she doesn't understand things, she also helps out other people when needed,” Peevey said.

I had also interviewed one of Tello’s friends, Jacob Galarza. Galarza had given his opinion about her gaining the title, Student of the Month.

“She definitely deserved this position because she is such a hardworking person,” Galarza said.

Tello lastly explained what she has learned from experiencing being the, Student of the Month.
“No matter how hard it gets, you shouldn't give up," Tello said.
