The poplar girl. The 'it' girl. The cheerleader - the girl who always looks so put together. The one that has a bright smile on her face. That smile that makes you think, 'she really does have it all'. But does she? What If I told you that that's not the case. She puts that smile on her face hoping that no one can see the hurt inside. She puts herself together to create the illusion of perfect - the illusion that she does have it all.
At the age of 8 Chloe Holt watched her parents scream and yell at each other for reasons that she couldn't understand. A few weeks after that, she saw her and her brother living in two different houses.
Her mom began to visit California a lot because her parents lived there and she had found a new boyfriend there. She began to find herself at her dad's house in Georgia much more than she was ever with her mom.
A week before school started up again, her mom gave her the news that she would be visiting California for a few days. Chloe had begged to go with her mom but she couldn't miss her first day. So, she stayed at her dad's house.
She talked to her mom every day. Counting down the hours until she got back. Those hours turned into days, days into weeks, until her dad told her that her mom wasn't going to come home and that she had fully moved there. He also told her that she wouldn't be able to see her again. That broke Chloe.
Chloe had to move in with her dad. She met his new girlfriend and her two daughters. Soon after meeting them, they moved in. When they did, her dad went crazy. He became more strict. He also started to drink more because of Lisa who was always drinking. Chloe's dad was a war veteran. Because of the drinking, it triggered him to have war flashbacks. Making him think that Chloe and everyone else in the house his soldiers that he was fighting against. She was constantly walking on ice.
She then knew that she had to get out of that house. On day, she went to visit her grandma. When she got in the car as she picked her up. She saw that her mom was sitting in the backseat. Chloe broke out in tears as she hugged her.
She went to go eat lunch when her mom asked how she felt about moving to California. Chloe loved it, thats what she had been wishing for. So, her mom called Chloe's dad to tell him that she was moving there. He got so angry that he ordered for her to come back and he called the police.
When they got back to the house, her mom got out go the car to talk to the officer as her dad started screaming at Chloe for agreeing to moving. After a long time of fighting, her dad told Chloe to go inside and pack a few things. She ran as fast as she could into her room and grabbed whatever was on the floor and left. When she went to open the front door her dad locked it. He wasn't going to let her go. Then Chloe worked up all the anger she could and started yelling. Protesting that she has the right to leave. Right when she was about to lose hope, he unlocked the door and told her to leave. And with her small bag, she left. Off to her new life in California.

  1. Real story, or made up? It is an interesting idea and I would love to see more development of this character. The lead was very strong and I would have enjoyed more development of that girls personality and less of the story of moving to CA. It is a compelling start to a good story.
